If you look at it from a purely scientific approach, every cell, every atom in your body has a frequency. It has been proven that emotions can drastically affect health. When your body's frequency, emotional state, etc get out of balance, you get sick. Reiki is nothing more or less than relieving stress and helping you find a balance to promote healing. Some people use yoga, some people use meditation, some people use jogging. It all has a similar effect. Reiki is just a tool to help you achieve that mind set and balance. There has been plenty of research on Reiki, Healing Touch, meditation, etc that shows it does indeed have an effect on the body. And if you have ever experienced Reiki, you can actually feel it. I can't explain it anymore than I can explain consciousness. I just know it is there and it works.
Jared L - have you ever even tried it? At different times models of the solar system, a round earth, the idea of cell phones, microorganisms, germs, and atoms were called nonsense. I'd say try it or wait around for more substantial scientific proof. Many hospitals are now incorporating Reiki into their staff and supplemental care.

you put your hands on yourself and there you have it!since i found reiki 8yrs ago, my self and my son have been very balanced, had very few trips to the doctors, and no antibiotics.i'll admit, the emotional growth has been tough at times, but we've come so far.i'm proud that i can put my hands on myself or others, and reduce stress and pain.i've had paracetamol probably twice in 8yrs.REIKI ROCKS you dont have to believe, just be open to it.
jared l, you CAN do it on the bus, thats the beauty of it…

When you are doing Reiki "on" a person or an animal the energy flow can be reciprocal. When you prepare yourself to receive the energy you are also treating yourself.

Please do not waste your time with such methods. Get rid of the delusion that processes like reiki do any good. At best they are only auto suggestion. At worst, an obsession.

I didn't like the site that Neeta K gave. It just didn't resonate to the Reiki that I learned.
First, you don't have to be a Reiki Master to give yourself Reiki. If any web site claims to teach it online, they are scamming you, as this is something that is taught person to person, not in any online school. There is an attunement process that is necessary for Reiki that must be done in person.
With that being said, yes, Reiki can be given and received anywhere for anything. I have used Reiki to heal my son's sprained ankle — overnight. My daughter has received Reiki healing from sexual abuse. I know one woman in my Reiki Share that can instantly heal bones, often making them healthier and stronger than before the break.
Reiki is more than just a way to relieve stress like yoga or meditation. Those methods are good for managing stress, but it is not the same as Reiki.
Can Reiki be proven? No. And neither can God. Please check out http://www.reiki.org/ as this is a reputable site, not out to take your money. You can also sign up for their newsletters by email for more information. Good luck!

Absolutely and you should. I am a Reiki Master teacher and this is the most important thing that should be taught in level 1 Reiki, self healing.
I amd sorry if your Reiki teacher did not teach you this. You just lay hands on your own body and channel the energy through.
The Reiki teacher sould recommend that you do self healing every day for at least thirty days after each attunement you receive to a new level of reiki.
It is great any time for both small and big problems. I do it almost every day. I still love to receive treatment from another practitioner regularly as well because there is nothing like just being able to relax and receive.

Definitely you can do Reiki on yourself. Part of the first Reiki class is healing the healer.
Every time you work on people you find the energy flowing through you to the person you are working on and both of you benefit from the session.
I have been doing Reiki since 1995 and have seen some amazing results. One was for a Lady that took Reiki to manage her fibromyalgia. She was very successful and her doctor was very happy about the results.
